Draft Water Sharing Plan for the Macleay Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources
This page contains information on the draft water sharing plan for viewing or downloading. The draft plan was on public exhibition from 2 March to 17 April 2015. The exhibition is now closed.
The draft Water Sharing Plan for the Macleay Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources (PDF 1.8 MB) includes proposed rules for protecting the environment, water extractions, managing licence holders' water accounts, and water trading in the plan area. The draft plan area comprises all the unregulated and alluvial water sources in this catchment.
The Water Sharing Plans for the Apsley River, Commissioners Waters and Toorumbee Creek commenced in 2004 and were due to expire in July 2015. As part of the replacement process, these water sharing plans will be merged into the Water Sharing Plan for the Macleay Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources.
Once the plan commences, the licensing provisions of the Water Management Act 2000 (WMA 2000) will also come into effect for new water sources in the Plan area. This means that existing Water Act 1912 licences will be converted to WMA 2000 water access licences, and water supply works and use approvals. The water access licences are therefore separated from land and as a result water trading is enhanced. Licenses held in the Apsley River, Commissioners Waters and Toorumbee Creek water sources have already been converted.
An Overview of Water Sharing Plans for Coastal NSW Unregulated and Alluvial Water Sources (PDF 185 KB) provides a general, plain English explanation of this water sharing plan's key provisions. The overview is a summary that should be read in conjunction with the draft plan.
Water source report cards have been created to assist in the consultation process for developing water sharing plans. The report cards below provide information on the water sharing rules for these water sources and how they were developed.
