Water Take Measurement Strategy
DPI Water is developing a Water Take Measurement Strategy for NSW to clearly articulate how different types and volumes of water take must be measured.
Significant work has been done in recent years to increase the measurement of water take in NSW in accordance with the National Framework for Non-Urban Water Metering and Murray-Darling Basin Plan. There is a need to bring this work together under a single cohesive strategy that delivers a consistent approach to water take measurement from all NSW water sources. However, a consistent approach does not mean a "one-size-fits-all" approach.
The strategy will provide flexibility for different types of water users and will not be focused solely on metering. We will be working with water users to identify a range of water take measurement tools for use according to water licence entitlement and pump sizes. The strategy will be risk-based and cost-effective. It will take into account completed and current meter installation projects, meter standards and meter charges.
