Nimmie-Caira open to expressions of interestDate: 2017 05 23
Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Water announced the Expression of Interest period for the Nimmie Caira property in southern NSW now open, representing a unique opportunity for innovative submissions from the market to utilise the natural resource site.
DPI Water Project Leader, Mr Jack Chubb, said the expression of interest period paves the way for the long term management plan for the site.
“The open tender expression of interest period for Nimmie Caira has commenced, with the market encouraged to put forward submissions for the 84,000 hectare site,” Mr Chubb said.
“We are looking for ideas from the market that generate innovative environmental, Aboriginal cultural heritage and commercial solutions for this diverse landscape.
“This is an exciting time for the project and the local community as we look to secure the site’s long term future.”
The NSW Government is committed to an open and transparent process for future development of the Nimmie-Caira Project.
The Expression of Interest period closes on Tuesday 11 July 2017. The EOI will be followed by a second Request for Proposal stage.
Market engagement partner Palladium has been appointed by the NSW Government to approach the market and gauge suitable candidates to take ownership of the site, as both a natural resource and commercial opportunity. The $180 million Nimmie-Caira Project is a significant water saving project for NSW and particularly for the Murrumbidgee region.
The project aims to balance the environmental and Aboriginal cultural heritage protection with commercial use, to create an asset for the local community and the Murray Darling Basin.
The Nimmie-Caira Project is funded by the Australian Government’s Sustainable Rural Water Use and Infrastructure Program, as part of the implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan in NSW. The NSW Department of Primary Industries - Water is the lead agency responsible for delivering the Project.
