Measuring river water using doppler gauging

The NSW Office of Water operates the largest water monitoring network in Australia to provide reliable and timely water information critical to managing water across New South Wales.

Our water monitoring program:

  • measures and controls surface water flow through a network of river gauging stations throughout the state
  • monitors the status of aquifers using a series of groundwater bores in particular regions
  • monitors the health of surface and ground water by collecting a range of water samples from across the state
  • monitors water usage from both surface water and aquifers throughout the state.

Real-time data

The NSW Office of Water uses digital electronic technology to provide real-time water data available online.
